Clinical Care and Front Line Work
HAMSMaRT currently has three areas of clinical work. We provide outreach medical care to people deprived of housing, we operate a safer supply clinic, S.A.S.S., for people who use drugs, and we offer drop-in psychiatry care to people who use drugs.
Clinical Outreach
In keeping with our commitment to providing low barrier health care and meeting people where they are at, we provide regular and as needed clinical outreach care as a supplement to our clinic based services. We regularly provide nursing and physician care to people deprived of housing in encampments, at drop in centres or the location of their choosing. Our focus is on mental health and addictions, infectious disease management and wound care. To connect with our outreach service, email clinics@hamsmart.ca.
Drop-In Psychiatry
Recognizing the harms, inadequacies and inaccessibility of the mainstream psychiatric system, as well as the major role of trauma in lives of people we work with, HAMSMaRT hosts a patient and community centred drop in psychiatry clinic on Tuesdays from 1-3pm at the AIDS Network. Dr. Rachel Lamont is committed to meeting and supporting people where they are at, listening and working in solidarity with people through their suffering. No referral or commitment to treatment is necessary. Feel free to drop in and talk, and come back anytime you like.
S.A.S.S. Clinic
S.A.S.S. (Support and Safer Supply) is a safer supply program that aims to provide pharmaceutical grade opioid alternatives to people at risk of dying from the contaminated illicit opioid drug supply, as well as peer support to assist the patient in meeting whatever self-defined goals they have related to their overall health and wellbeing. We strive to operate from a harm reduction lens, which means that we do our best to reduce the harms associated with illicit substance use without any expectation that someone will or wants to stop or reduce their substance use.
OUR S.A.S.S. CLINIC IS NOT CURRENTLY ACCEPTING REFERRALS AND WE DO NOT MAINTAIN A WAITLIST. WE WILL UPDATE HERE WHEN WE ARE ACCEPTING NEW PATIENTS AGAIN.
